Room 22, located in the Historic
Annex (Vander Wagen family's original home),
features a queen-size bed (with pillow-top mattress) and a an interestingly-shaped desk of Mexican,
rustic design and solid,
fragrant pine with many odd shaped drawers and curvaceous shapes! The bed is fitted with
high quality linen and a colorful southwestern-patterned comforter. Family-heirloom
afghans are placed about to provide coziness, especially while taking comfort in the plush
futon which anchors this room (and can convert to a single bed for additional sleeping
accommodation). Plenty of lamps allow for lounging in different areas of the room.
A television set driven by satellite-based DishTv network stands ready to
inform & entertain guests. This
room is cozy and sun-lit from the east: at certain times of the year, a single, well defined
sunbeam bisects the room upon sunrise! Plush carpeting, colorful upholstery and
"tongue and groove" knotty pine paneling enhance the warm, private yet spacious
feeling of the room; this also makes this Room 22 a favorite of Guests wishing to partake
of a good selection of books: novels, Zuni reference material and assorted literary works
occupy several shelves. Cooling is provided via a wall mounted, refrigerated
air conditioner, for those summer periods when Zuni does get somewhat hot! Heating is produced by a blown air
furnace which also serves the other 2 nearby rooms (Nos 21 & 23)
and supplemented by a personal ceramic heater. This room currently shares a detached
bathroom with those 2 other rooms: it is located at the end of the short hallway linking
the Inn's 3 newest rooms. This hallway features a buffet / refreshment / coffee / tea
station well provided for and including a small refrigerator.
It also leads to a spacious,
tree-lined, private deck: a favorite lounging spot during clement
evenings! A room walk-in closet
provides ample storage space to allow Guests to enjoy the room without being encumbered by
their traveling luggage. Original paintings by Zuni artists Chris Natachu, Herrin Othole
(Art Instructor at Zuni High School) and Adrian Soseeah adorn the walls, along with a
painting by (your Innkeeper truly!) Elaine Thomas and a cottonwood carving by Alan Lewis:
some of those items were produced by the artists during their formative years and were
acquired from annual Art Shows held at the Zuni High School.
