"Welcome to the
Zuni Christian Reformed Church. We
are glad you are here to celebrate with us this significant event in the life of our
Congregation - the Dedication of the A:shiwi Vander Wagen Ministry Center. Just two
years ago, on October 12th, 1997, we celebrated our 100th Anniversary. It was almost 100
years ago to the day that Andrew
& Effa Vander Wagen arrived in Zuni to begin the Ministry of the Christian
reformed Church, creating, according to Andrew, "considerable excitement in the
village of Zuni [...] because two young missionaries - 'tutaches' as they were called -
had arrived."

Great financial resources have been generously committed to this project from our
community and from across the nation. The impetus for starting this venture came from a
large gift from Dr. John (Vander Wagen) Wagner and from the early inspired decision of
contractor Rick Murphy (Andrew & Effa's
great grandson ) to oversee the project on a non-profit basis. About 300 people from all
walks of a life have contributed. Former Zuni Tribe Councilman Harry Chimoni served as
liason to the Council and various committees & agencies paved the way to see this
Center completed. It is now a precious new resource for the Church and the whole
Community. |
