This quality establishment is located
right down the street
from the Inn At Halona... Good, friendly neighbors.
We encourage our Guests - as well as all visitors to Zuni -
to visit this Artist's Studio and meet with Carlton & Julie Jamon
in their own workshop and gallery.
--Year 2000: SILVERBEAR
STUDIO & GALLERY has now developed its OWN, extensive Website! Please visit it at http://www.silverbearstudio.com and learn more about SILVERBEAR STUDIO & GALLERY and Zuni!

In
addition of being fine artists on their own, Carlton & Julie JAMON ("We are
pretty much 50/50" states Carlton emphatically regarding his and Julie's close
association!) run their own gallery-studio and "respectfully represent" eight
other area artists as well as support many others in their efforts to reach the
marketplace with their crafts. In their own art, the Jamons use symbols rich with meaning
in the Zuni culture, but incorporate them in contemporary designs. For example, they came
to their signature sterling silver bear while pondering how to translate the well known
Zuni stone fetish art into silversmithing. Carlton & Julie's workshop is accessible to
the visiting public and both artists never fail to introduce their art, methods and tools
to customers and visitors alike. |

The Jamons are influential and
persistent advocates of Tribal arts in general and of Zuni's unique arts and crafts in
particular. They are co-founders of the ZUNI CULTURAL ARTS COUNCIL (ZCAC) which,
among projects it is involved in, organizes and promotes the annual ZUNI ARTS &
CULTURAL EXPO. Otherwise, the Council strives to promote creative authenticity,
professionalism and marketing education among its membership. Carlton & Julie are also
involved in a promising new initiative consisting of offering visitors to Zuni a unique
opportunity to visit prominent Zuni artists in their studios. This "Artist's
Studio Tour" has just begun offering its services and several groups of
travelers brought to Zuni under the auspices of the Elderhostel®
organization have already been exposed to this cultural feature - this same organization
also entered into an agreement with the Inn At Halona to offer lodging at the
Inn as an integral part of its Spring
2000 and Summer
2000 Seasons' selections of programs; similar opportunities will
be offered to other Elderhostel®
groups in 2001, during which Elderhostel® members will
initially be offered the opportunity to provide tutoring
to local schools. The general public shall soon be able to
also meet personally with those Zuni artists involved in the Tour and to partake of unique
opportunities to learn about their crafts and make purchases "directly from the
artists".
Elderhostel® , and The Elderhostel Institute Network® are registered marks in the
United States and other countries, of Elderhostel, Inc.
