Paperback - 168 pages 1 Ed edition (March 1998)

Mr. Virgil WYACO, a Zuni Indian elder and leader, recounts his life in both the traditional Zuni and modern Western worlds. The book places a considerable emphasis on Mr. WYACO's experiences in World War II and on his postwar experiences back in the Southwest and Zuni.  Most importantly, Mr. WYACO's book is pleasantly infused with the author's witty personality: everyone in Zuni knows Mr. WYACO well for the charming yet incisive way he contrasts the Zuni and Western ways of life, and also for the  sincere, very personal yet not imposing nor boastful ways he handles and describes himself: "My aunts use the Zuni word "meshiko", to describe my behavior then [as a child], which is closer in meaning to the English word "naughty" then manly. Perhaps I was both."  Let the reader be the judge!!  Mr. WYACO's work is both informative and uniquely entertaining about contemporary life at Zuni and the often sometimes complex interaction between the Zuni culture and the "rest of the world".

Paperback - 160 pages 1 Ed edition (June 1999)

This wonderful book directly from and about Zuni is a eclectic, unique authentic compendium of food related recipes, folklore items and linguistic information and social commentaries. It is written for both Zuni everyday users and non-Zuni interested individuals. Food is an important topic in the Zuni culture: its preparation, whether for regular eveyday purpose or for ceremonial and religious celebrations, permeates the Zuni culture through the variety of items used (and often grown locally) and the meaningfulness of every stage of its preparation. Ms. EDAAKIE is a knowledgeable elder member of the Zuni Tribe; she also shares her knowledge through many cultural and social activities offered by the A:shiwi A:wan Museum & Heritage Center (the Pueblo of Zuni's own eco-museum) where she is the resident Tradition Bearer. Ms. Edaakie was an essential participant, instructor and mentor in the just completed summer cycle of "Inter-generational knowledge sharing activities for your with community elders" offered throughout the summer of 1999 by the Museum. Ms. EDAAKIE's book is also available through the A:shiwi A:wan Museum & Heritage Center
(Call 505.782.4403 for information on ordering directly from the Museum & about the Museum's role in our community).

Hardcover - 608 pages (May 1999)

A very large - and yes, expensive - book about North Amerivan Indian Jewelry, Regalia, Artifacts and other marvelous creations. Detailed illustrations accompanied by enlightening descriptions and commentaries. Well worth the investment: if any volume qualifies as the perfect "coffee-table" ("reference" is of course a better word!) book about North American Native Art, this is the one. Recommended by Ms. Veronica POBLANO, a reputed Zuni Artist who met with the author during the recent 1999 Indian Market at Sante Fe, New Mexico.
